Pencil Crush!

Helping my daughter with her homework has made me nostalgic for pencils.  Yes, nostalgic.  I didn’t recall the last time I had used one.  I’m always typing or tapping and when I do write something down I grab a pen from the drawer full of pens (how does that always happen?!  why do we have so many pens? – because I don’t remember ever buying any!).  But as soon as I heard the lead push across the paper I remembered how much I used to love drawing and writing with pencils.  I even had a cute little pencil case.  I was obsessed with my handwriting – didn’t like it – so I would sit down and trace over writing samples I thought looked nice .  Over and over again.  And now my love for pencils and handwriting things has returned.  Of course, I’ll never give up the pen but the pencil’s forgiveness for mistakes is hard to beat.

I’m really into the whole ‘moon trend’ that seems to be on the uprise.  Who doesn’t love the moon?

I thought this vintage moon print sweatshirt from The Salton Sea looked super comfy.

And I saved my favorite for last.  A screenprinted moon phases calendar from Little Lark.  It satisfies my obsession with the moon and with gold.  This will be mine … today.  Seriously, I’m adding it to my cart right after I finish this post!

Happy Moon Gazing, Everyone!  XO

Macrame is Back!

I’m really excited to see macrame making a comeback.  When I was a kid we had a macrame owl with wooden bead eyes hanging in the living room.  I probably made fun of my mom for having it at some point and now I wish she still had it.  I recently spotted some really pretty and quite modern looking macrame pieces I thought I would share (I also included links to some simple knotting techniques.).  I think I know what DIY project I’m adding to my list!

Cute Crochet from Frolicking Leaves

I can’t sew, I can’t knit, and I sure as heck cannot crochet.  I did try to make a pillow for Ava once while I was pregnant … didn’t turn out too bad, but there is still an opening on one side because I never learned how to do the closing stitch.  The closest I’ve come to knitting or crocheting [and this is quite a stretch] is doing one of those latch hooks rug kits when I was a kid.  For some people, wielding a pair of long needles [or hooks, I think they’re called] and turning a ball of yarn into something other than a potholder is second nature.  Etsy shop owner, Angie of Frolicking Leaves, is a great example.

Angie lived with her grandmother while she was student teaching in 2001 and from those skilled hands, she learned the craft of crochet.  She refined her skills, began creating her own fun designs, and opened up her shop in October ’09.  Once she perfects a design [which can take days of starting to crochet, pulling apart, starting over, and finally nailing it], Angie can stitch up a pair of booties or an adorable hat in couple of hours.  So jealous.

Over the holiday season, these felted crochet ballet slippers [omg i love them] were selling fast, just like her current line of hats.  One lucky reader will even WIN A HAT just by leaving a comment.  [View Giveaway Details]

Angie is also a mom – two kids, ages 6 and 22 months – and spends a lot of late nights crocheting while the kiddos sleep.  She has even helped her daughter open up her very own Etsy shop [Greta’s Paper Art] to sell her crayon creations.  What a cute idea!

Just like any mom, we need to find ways to unwind.  Angie’s, of course, involves crocheting … as well as a good cup of coffee and an episode of Little House on the Prairie.  Don’t laugh – I actually love that show too.  :-)  Thanks so much to Angie for taking the time to share a little of herself with me … and don’t forget to check out the Frolicking Leaves Giveaway!  XO

Cutest Little Black Dress

How cute is this little black dress?!  Soooo cute, right?  You can find it at lola [on Etsy] … and be sure to browse through the shop – she has some really amazing dresses.

And if you don’t want to wait until next spring to wear this little number, just throw on some tights, boots, and a chunky cardigan – like this one from lamixx [also found on Etsy] – looks so cozy and comfortable, doesn’t it?

Vintage Glass

The wedding is less than two weeks away and I’ve started packing for our trip to Ohio.  This is just a very small portion of the vintage glassware I’ve been collecting from thrift stores to use on the tables at the reception.

I love vintage glass.  I’m drawn to it … and I don’t care about rarity or worth, I just like it to be aesthetically pleasing.  It’s pretty and you can just set it out to look at it or actually use it.  I’ve started spray painting vintage bottles [the yellow bottle on the left was my first].

Apparently there are lots of people who love this look because I found tons of great glass on Etsy.
